Funny how whatever you’ve got planned never quite seems to end up the way you thought it would. Some of my best intentions have gone up in smoke in ways so unexpected I often take moments to marvel at mi vida loca. The memo that I didn’t know everything must have got lost somewhere in between the memo that I never will know everything and the other memo about how complicated this journey was going to be SMH.
I look back at the bright eyed bi-racial girl with pig tails I used to be and hope that all her ambitions and beliefs are still in tact as I stomp through the trenches in order to get to the other side. Had it not been for the man upstairs watching over me I don’t think I would have made it this far and evolved. The process of self love and growth can only begin when you realize there is something wrong with you and only you. Do you have any idea how long it takes to get to that place? Now that I’ve got all of that out of the way, I’m starting to realize being true to myself is just part of the solution. Now I have to build on what I’ve taken years to break down and let me tell you duns and divas, it is not easy when the foundation is shaky. Then there’s the little pitfalls and detours that lyfe throws in. I used to get upset when stuff wasn’t going my way, especially when I’m doing the right thing. I assumed that doing the right thing and living a certain path would some how bring me the success I was searching for. Fate is a damn practical joker though and even the ones who play by the rules will catch a bit of grief here and there. My conclusion for today, my lesson learned, is that I must remain optimistic but still prepare for the worst case scenario. The moment I get all lax and start trippin, something always comes around the corner, slaps me in the forehead, and reminds me to expect the unexpected.
Hi SoulKimchi,
I agree that things you plan so well often never go the way you thought it should, but sometimes that is a good thing because we may not be aware of what is good for us, or there may be an alternative. Murphy’s Laws are written down for a reason: they are so true. You seem to have taken the right attitude in knowing that the way to succeed is to be confident and resilient. You have a good attitude and that should work for you…most of the time…because the best laid plans of mice and men (and women) often go awry.
BTW, I have some favorite Murphy’s Laws myself. One of them is “Whatever you drop on the floor will roll to the furthest and least accessible part of the room.” And the other one is not necessarily a law from Murphy, but it is one my dad taught me and it is so true “No good deed goes unpunished.” Think about it the next time you offer to do a favor for somebody. Have a great day. -Mike
